FCF Annual Convention

The Feline Conservation Federation holds it’s annual convention in late July.  This annual event is a mixture of education and entertainment as well as an opportunity for each member to take an active part in the FCF on the national level.

Prior to the convention, there will be a call for an agenda in the Journal. This gives everyone, whether they are able to attend the convention or not, the opportunity to give input. At the general membership meeting, these topics are brought up for input from those present and any discussion they may have on that subject.

At a separate time, the FCF Board of Directors conducts it’s annual board meeting.   All FCF members are welcome to attend.  Field representatives are encouraged to attend and present their annual report. Although these Field representatives do not have a vote (only the Board of Directors may vote) they are allowed input.

Besides the business conducted at convention, it is also a great opportunity to meet other FCF members. There is ample time allowed for visiting and Friday is devoted to organized field trips to local feline attractions.  An afternoon of educational speakers on Saturday enlightens the members on the various aspects of feline husbandry, conservation projects and veterinary topics.

In order to get as many members involved on the national level as possible, the location of the convention varies from year to year, making it possible for members around the country to attend as convention moves from city to city.

One of the highlights of every convention is the banquet held Saturday evening. After the banquet dinner several coveted awards are presented, first being this organization’s highest honor, known as the LIOC Lotty award. The conservation recognition award is presented. The FCF members nominate and vote to honor one person for their conservation work for felines.  Another award is reporter of the year, chosen by the editor for the best article contribution of the year.  Throughout the year photographs are submitted and published in the Journal.  These photos are displayed at the convention and members vote for their favorite.  The winner is given a prize for the best photo.

Also occurring at convention on banquet night is the FCF auction. Items are donated to raise funds for the Feline Conservation Federation.  These items are displayed for silent auction throughout the convention. A few chosen items are auctioned off live Saturday night to the highest bidder. Besides being a source of funding for the FCF projects and conservation interests, the auction is a lot of fun and a highlight of the convention weekend.
