Press Release on Cricket Hollow Zoo

Incident at the Cricket Hollow Zoo

Iowa, Monday, July 18, 2011  Ron DeArmond CEO of Pella Wildlife Company and state representative for the Feline Conservation Federation has been designated by the Sellner’s to be the media contact for this incident.

Sunday morning during the feeding of the tigers before the zoo was to be opened, Tom Sellner, owner of the Cricket Hollow Zoo, was injured during the feeding and taken to an Iowa City hospital with non life threatening injuries. The tiger enclosures are designed with shifts that prevent the tigers from interacting with husbandry and maintenance staff. The operation of the door in this particular enclosure is being evaluated as to the exact cause and to prevent this type of accident in the future.

The Sellner’s own and operate a dairy as well as the zoo on their property in Manchester, IA. The Cricket Hollow Zoo is licensed under the USDA and meets the same standards of operation as all zoos such as the San Diego Zoo in California and the National Zoo in Washington D.C.

At no time was the general public at risk.

We ask that all media respect the Sellner’s privacy and allow Tom and Pam time to get back to a regular schedule.
