Conservation Grants

Feline Conservation Federation conservation projects

Conservation committee reviews grant application proposals submitted to FCF.  A Conservation Grant Committee will evaluate submissions and award grants to those proposals that match FCF goals.  Dr. Jim Sanderson is a member of and the conservation advisor to the FCF Conservation Grant Committee.

FCF’s current conservation projects budget is set by the board of directors annually. Substantial additional funding to specific projects is also provided by FCF members and through your donations.

FCF and its members provide funding and in-kind support for (1) rehabilitation, (2) reintroduction, (3) captive breeding, (4) monitoring, and (5) in-depth studies of wild cats.  Proposals seeking FCF consideration should address (1)-(5) specifically.  Although priority is given to threatened species according to the IUCN Red List ranking, other wild cat species will be considered.

FCF also seeks to support the creation of rehabilitation, captive breeding, and reintroduction programs at public and private zoos and sanctuaries where such programs are deemed necessary for Threatened and Near Threatened IUCN Red List species, particularly those species that currently do not benefit from such programs.

Because survival of a species is best achieved in the wild, FCF support is contingent on establishing in-situ field programs in parallel with captive programs.  Species of interest to FCF include the Andean cat, Bay cat, Clouded leopard, Fishing cat, Flat-headed cat, Geoffroy’s cat, Guiña, Pampas cat, Margay, and Marbled cat.
